The Next Chapter

by Sheryll on March 8, 2012

A few days ago, all of the months of getting fingerprints, passport photos, gathering paperwork, getting said paperwork notarized, apostilled, staying up until 4am in Paris watching Johnny interview over Skype, running around Paris trying to find a DHL location, printing out a 20 page contract 4 times on the wrong size paper, and praying that the USPS didn’t lost my passport…I was rewarded:

You don’t know how good it feels to have that little piece of paper inside of my passport. Even though Johnny is there already, it still didn’t really feel real…until I got my visa. All the months of stress and craziness have finally paid off!

And last night, I bought my ticket! So now, it’s really, REALLY, real. I’ll be flying from Huntsville, AL to LAX, hanging out with my sister and my baby niece during my 8 hour layover in LA, then leaving at 1:40AM on my way to Seoul with a 3 hour layover in Beijing.

Johnny has been there a week and he is really enjoying himself. His co teachers are super helpful and nice, his students are well behaved, and he has been prepping me on everything I need to know. Apparently I need to work on my chopstick skills, and prepare my liver for massive amounts of soju.

He’s also promised me that we’re going to fulfill one of my life goals the first weekend I’m there…and that’s to go to the Hello Kitty cafe.

I think my heart might explode. Out of my 25 years on this Earth, I have loved Hello Kitty for about 22 of them. Anyone that knows me knows how this has seriously been a dream of mine for a loooooong time. I cannot wait! Cuteness overload!

And now…to finish this damn TEFL course.

Until next time!

So happy for you! S. Korea, specifically Seoul, is on my bucket list (I feel like I say that on every post lol). This is an awesome opportunity & I look forward to hearing about your updates from Korea. Question: Do you already know Korean or do you plan on learning as you go? I’m interested in learning it but I’m wondering what the difficulty level is….

Oh, I definitely don’t know Korean. But I am learning from this awesome website: http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/. I’m currently trying to learn Hangul, or the Korean alphabet. I’ve started listening to a lot of kpop and watching some Korean dramas to hear how it’s actually spoken. It’s helping a lot!

Ahhh, soju. It will kill you. So, so lethal.

GIRL. It’s the devil. I went to a party in Korea town in LA once, and the soju nearly killed me.

I’m so excited for you! In less than a month you’ll be with Johnny again, in Korea, enjoying lunch at the Hello Kitty cafĂ© because of your hard work and dedication to making this dream become real. Good luck finishing your TEFL course XO

Thank you so much darling! I can’t wait! This course is killing me because I haven’t been in school for so long. Definitely an eye opener for sure.

So exciting! Good luck getting everything ready and hope you have an amazing experience. Not sure how close you’ll be to Seoul, but I’ll be there from April 12 – 16. It would be funny for us to LA girls to acutally meet in Korea!

I get there on the 4th, and I’m about 45 minutes from Seoul. But I will definitely look up the dates and let you know!

Congratulations Sheryll! I am also planning to go to the Hello Kitty Cafe this coming April. Actually, I still need to process my visa (yes, Philippine passport holders are required to apply for a visa for South Korea huhu) but I have a feeling that it will be approved. Hoping to see you there!

Yeah, you’re definitely right about the soju! I don’t really drink, so when I turn it down I always get funny looks (although I’m used to this from the States when I turn down happy hour lol). So awesome that Johnny’s kids are well behaved! I wish mine were lol. They are so cute, though! You would have a blast teaching!

That’s you *WILL* have a blast teaching. My grammar is getting worse by the second.

HAHAHAHA! Where are you teaching again? I’m hoping the kids like me…it’s all I’m worried about!

Amazing!

Where abouts will you be? I live in the same neighbourhood as the Hello Kitty Cafe in Seoul!

Meet ups once you’re settled??

YOU DO?!?!?! Yes! Let’s meet up! I’ll email you once I’m all settled.

You’re going to love everything, Sheryll. I know it probably seems so overwhelming and hard being away from him right now but once you get over there, your life is going to change so much and you’re going to have the most incredible time in the world.
