April 2013

Soooo let’s just dig in to part 2 of my spring skincare/makeup haul, shall we? innisfreelipcheektint I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2The Innisfree Vivid Color Cheek and Lip Tint is WONDERFUL…for my cheeks. My lips are not really feeling it. I got it in a bright orange color which is just perfect for spring (it looks a tad bit more red in the picture, but I promise it’s orange). I’ve been wearing it on my cheeks almost daily since I’ve gotten it, and my co-teachers have all commented on how nice my makeup looks. I’ve found that putting it on my lips is a bit drying, even after liberally applying lip balm. It doesn’t really go on smooth either. I’ll stick to the stick and wand tints for my lips for now.

nowomanlikeshavingpores I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2Faith in Face Pore Tighening Mask: A while back, I did a post about Korean face masks and how much I love them, despite looking like a crazy person when I wear them. I saw the Faith in Face brand in Olive Young, and just couldn’t resist buying a mask, based on the packaging alone. Packaging is so important to me. It’s part of the reason why SkinFood stresses me out sometimes. Why do they still use Comic Sans as their font?!?!?! The world many never know. Anyways, besides the cute packaging that promises to give me crystal clear skin, I’ve fallen in looooove with these face masks. They are hydrogel face masks, which somehow seem to work so much better for me than the cotton ones. I just love the way they feel, and you can see the results almost immediately. The brightening one is another one of my favorites. It made my skin glow. I also love the moisturizing one too. Basically I’ve tried and loved them all. If you find yourself near an Olive Young, they are in the section with all of the face masks.

normadermtotalmat I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2Vichy Normaderm Total Mat Moisturizer: Now, I know that this isn’t a Korean product, but I got it from a Korean store (Olive Young), so it almost counts. One of my favorite things about Olive Young is that they have a fairly large section of French cosmetics, stuff I’d never, ever be able to find in the States, including the Bioderm Sensibio H2O makeup remover…holy grail product! I’ve been on the hunt for a lightweight daytime moisturizer now that it’s getting warmer. By this time in the next few months, makeup will barely be an option as the humidity in Korea is so high. BUT. I have found something that may help all of us. I’ve been using this moisturizer consistently for 2 weeks and I am in LOVE with the results. For a little background, the Total Mat moisturizer is a paraben-free, anti-shine and ANTI-HUMIDITY moisturizer. Let me repeat that for you, ANTI-HUMIDITY! It’s infused with some stuff that mimics the effects of blotting paper (a must have for summer), and it contains something called Perlite which can absorb 3x it’s weight in water. The end result is clear, less shiny skin, and no makeup running down your face because it’s 100% humidity outside. Since I’ve been using it, I’ve noticed that my makeup stays on much longer, and my face definitely isn’t as shiny as it used to be at the end of the day. The real test will come in a few months, but based on what I’ve noticed so far and read from a couple of other reviews, I think we have a winner!

revedemiel2 I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2NUXE Rêve de Miel Lip Balm: Again, not a Korean product, but it’s so good that I had to share! Confession time: Raise your hand if you are a chapstick addict. You know, the type of person who applies chapstick/lip balm at least 20 times a day? That used to be me. Until I learned about how TERRIBLE chapstick is for you and how we’re all addicted to the stuff. I found myself applying chapstick almost constantly. That is, until I found Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm at my local Olive Young. Rêve de Miel is a very rich and thick lip balm that helps repair dry, chapped lips, and for me, helped break my chapstick addiction. I can apply it in the morning, and I won’t even need to put on anymore until late afternoon/evening. It’s an amazing product. It is absolutely perfect under lipstick, as it doesn’t leave you with any glossiness or shine, and it makes your lips extra soft. I read about it being a holy grail product on my favorite beauty site, Into the Gloss, and I couldn’t agree more.

cliogelspressoeyeliner I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner: I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but Clio eyeliners are THE ABSOLUTE BEST. EVER. OF ALL TIME. I use the black liquid eyeliner pen and I constantly get asked how I get my liner so perfect. It’s Clio! Every single liner I’ve tried by Clio has wonderful pigmentation, and it does not budge. I’ve been to Mudfest, Caribbean Bay, dealt with rain, humidity, snow, wind, and it just doesn’t budge. It’s made out of miracles, apparently.

The gelpresso liners go on smooth, and they come in a variety of colors. I have 2, one in a dark, army green color, and the other in a cranberry color. They’re really great for adding that extra pop for color, or for smudging a bit for a sultry smokey eye. If you live in Korea, you can find Clio products at Olive Young.

innisfreestuff I’m Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul – Part 2Innisfree Olive Real Moisture Hand Cream: My awesome reader Jane recommended this hand cream to me months ago, and I haven’t looked back. It’s thick, but it absorbs into the skin quickly with no residue. One of my biggest hand cream pet peeves is when it feels like my hands just have a weird, oily, mask on them, but this stuff is the real deal! Love love!

Innisfree Green Tea Pure Sleeping Mask: I finally ran out of my Etude House shea butter sleeping mask, so I decided to try something new. It’s a slightly watery, gel like consistency that is a tad bit overwhelming in the fragrance department. It makes my skin look super fabulous in the morning, but it’s irritating to my eyes (and I’m not even using it around my eyes). I don’t know if it’s the fragrance or what, but it’s a shame since my skin seems to love it!

Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Primer: I’m a firm believer in primers. I use them every day. My makeup just doesn’t have the same smoothness and dewiness without one. Plus, once summer really hits, it’s a necessity so your makeup isn’t running down your face. My awesome friend Kelly raved to me the no-sebum mineral primer, and since I live 6 minutes from an Innisfree now, I just had to pop in and get it. And it’s WONDERFUL. It’s full of silicone, so if you’re ‘cone sensitive, stay away. It has such a silky texture, and it makes my makeup look flawless. I’ve also noticed that it makes my makeup color stay on much longer than the primer from the Face Shop. If I had to do a ranking, I’d still say the Etude House primer is my favorite, followed by Innisfree, then The Face Shop.

WHEW! And that’s it (so far). My friend Kelly and I hit up the Mac Pro store and the NARS counter in Apgujeong this weekend, and got some really amazing goodies. I FINALLY got Taj Mahal blush. If you’re dark skinned, you need that blush in your life. Trust me. Stay looking out on my instagram for the rest of my makeup haul!

I’ve received a ton of emails about what products I use in my hair and my hair routine. Is that something you’d be interested in seeing? Let me know in the comments!

So first things first, I’m finally starting to get adjusted to teaching elementary school. I’m so thankful to have caring and understanding co-teachers that have guided and helped me figure everything out. Johnny’s been a HUGE help too, since he’s already been at an elementary school for over a year now. I finally finished unpacking my apartment, and things are definitely feeling more cozy and welcoming. I really like my new apartment! The neighborhood is so much better than my old one. But in good and bad news, McDonald’s still doesn’t deliver to my new place. But I do have a Starbucks (!!!), SkinFood, Innisfree, Olive Young, Aritaum, Missha, Etude House and a Face Shop about an 8 minute walk away. It’s DANGEROUS…and the next 2 posts are evidence.

Let’s start with some lip glosses, shall we?

lipglosses2 Im Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul Part 1

Starting from left to right:

1. Etude House Dear My Jelly Lips-Talk in JPK002: So first of all, the name of this product is fucking ridiculous. But besides that, it’s in adorable packaging, which is about 90% of the reason I bought it. I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for cute packaging! The color is a bright pink, and it goes on sheer. It’s very moisturizing, but if you’re looking for a lipstick with tons of pigment, skip it. It’s perfect for me since I don’t like to wear super bright colors to work. There’s just enough color, but my students won’t be calling me sexy teacher or anything…

2. Etude House Dear My Essence in Lips-Talk in EBE101: Let it me known that I am in love with this lipstick/gloss hybrid. It’s shiny like a gloss, but also has great pigmentation. It’s not very long wearing, but it’s very moisturizing. The EBE101 color is a really pretty dusty rose color. It’s a great dupe for the MAC Sheen Supreme lipsticks, which I already have, but I don’t want to use it all because it’s crazy expensive here. So, this Etude House one has become my everyday lip color!

3. Innisfree Vivid Tint Rouge in 10: When I first picked up this lip tint, I called my good friend immediately and told her she had to pick it up. I’m normally not a big fan of lip tints, as most of the colors are just not right for my skin tone and make me look like I’ve been sucking on a red popsicle. Not the look I want. Then Innisfree came to the rescue and changed my life. These tints are unlike anything I’ve seen in Korea. They are super pigmented,  are super long wearing, and have a creamy consistency. All I need to do is prep my lips with some lip balm, and dab a bit on my lips and BAM. So much color, so little effort. I was told that they sold out within days when they first came out, and I’m so lucky I got my hands on one. The color 10 is a mauve/pink combo that’s again perfect for me to wear to school without looking too done up.

4. Etude House LUCIDarling Fantastic Rouge Gloss in 6: This is just your standard lip gloss. It’s got great pigmentation and it doesn’t smell or taste weird. I HATE HATE HATE the Innisfree glosses for this reason…they smell and taste like lemon soap. Honestly, this gloss is nothing special, but I just really, really liked the color. Again, it’s that dusty, mauve-ish, pink that just keeps popping back in my life. It’s just a great, everyday color.

5. Innisfree Creamy Tint Lipstick in 4: Innisfree describes this lipstick as a “highly pigmented long-lasting moisture lipstick that delivers rich color in one stroke”, and I’d have to agree 209457345%. It’s creamy, it’s moisturizing, and trust me, the color DOES NOT BUDGE. You may need a special lip makeup remover, as it does tend to leave a bit of tint at the end of the day. It has a slight matte finish, which I tend to like when I’m wearing super bright lip colors. I got color 4, which is a bright coral color. It’s perfect for spring and summer!

primerpolishquickdry Im Obsessed with Korean Cosmetics: The Spring Haul Part 1

Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer: Eyelid primer is an absolute essential for me because I just so happen to have the oiliest eyelids on the face of the planet. The rest of my face is tolerably oily, but my eyelids are a different story. I had been looking far and wide for a primer here, and I stumbled upon an article that featured this beauty. It’s pretty much an exact dupe for the cult classic Urban Decay Primer Potion, and it’s only 6,000W. SCORE AND SCORE. Don’t be afraid of the color, as it fades right into the skin. I use it on my eyelids and set with a bit of the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder and do a fierce cat eye liquid eyeliner for my day time makeup. It keeps my eyeliner from getting all over my oily lids and keeps them shine free forever. I just looked in the mirror and my eyelids are barely getting gross after about 14 hours. Magic.

Innisfree Peel Off Base Coat: I’m not exactly sure how I ever lived without this in my life. If you are big fan of glitter nail polish, I have just told you about your savior. No more scrubbing or sitting with foil and cotton on your fingers. Use this base coat, and you can literally just peel your glitter polish off without damaging your nails. It is a miracle. Now, if you have a habit of picking at your nails, I wouldn’t recommend this because it’s just going to peel all of your polish off…unless that’s what you want!

The Face Shop Quick Dry Drops: Are you the type of person that starts painting your nails about 20 minutes before you need to get to bed? Well, if you are, these quick dry nail drops are your answer. I’m not exactly sure what sort of magic is in them, but no lie, your nails are dry to the touch after 1 minute, and completely dry after 5 minutes. It’s perfect for people on the go, or people who spontaneously decide to paint their nails at 11:30pm (cough cough).

Part 2 will be up on Friday! I’ll be featuring a gorgeous orange lip and cheek tint from Innisfree, a new sleeping mask, 2 primers, and a new daytime moisturizer that is apparently ANIT-HUMIDITY (!!!!!), which we will know will be pretty helpful in about a month.

Have any of you ever tried the products I’ve recommended so far? What have been your favorites?

Adjustment Period

by Sheryll on April 9, 2013

Whew. What a whirlwind these past few weeks have been!

As you all know, I started my new elementary school job last Friday. I am now teaching 6th grade, which is such a HUGE jump from middle school. I feel like a fish out of water. I miss my old students more than words can say.

Leaving my old school was super emotional for me. I must have cried at least 7 or 8 times during my final days. My students were so kind! They bought me cakes, wrote me letters, and gave me gifts. My co-workers took me out to dinner at a delicious Korean BBQ restaurant. I am forever grateful to my students and former co-workers for making my first year in Korea 345346 times easier and better than I ever thought it could be.
