What’s In My Makeup Bag

I did a little poll on my Facebook and Instagram page, and you all overwhelmingly chose this topic to be my next blog post. I love asking what you all want to see, so look forward to more polls down the road.

A little background before I give you all the deets. I moved to a new school and new apartment in April. I know, I know, I haven’t talked much about my new job or apartment. My new place is much smaller than my old one, but it’s cozy and cute. Teaching 6th grade was a challenge at first, but I’m dealing with it.  Thankfully, my co-workers are all wonderful, caring, and kind. I’ve been really lucky for 2 years!

Anyway, my new apartment is basically at the top of a mountain. My school is about a 20 to 25 minute walk, or a 5 (ish) minute bus ride. 95% of the time, I choose to ride the bus. Problem is, this particular bus only runs every 25 minutes, once at 8am and once at 8:25am. Since I have to be to work at 8:30, the 8:25 bus is cutting it a little bit too close, so I normally opt for the 8am bus. Taking the 8am bus means I normally rush out the door with a bare face and just bring all of my makeup with me to school. I usually put my makeup on at my desk before the other teachers get to work, and no one knows the difference. This explains why I carry so much makeup with me everyday. I know, it’s the longest background story in the history of life, but I like to be thorough.

The bag itself is some random free bag I got for free from The Face Shop. It’s held up pretty well, and I like the leopard print. I use all of the products I keep in my bag daily, since my makeup routine is basically the same everyday. If I have time to do my makeup at home, I get a little more adventurous.

Clockwise from the left:

I use MAC Mineralize SPF15 Foundation in NC45. Now that’s it’s getting colder, I prefer something a tad bit heavier than my favorite Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. I apply it using a beauty blender knock-off from Etude House, and it gives me a really flawless finish.

I use my NARS Multiple in Palm Beach to highlight my cheekbones. I prefer a more bronze highlight as opposed to something more pink/white. It just compliments my skin tone better. I take one swipe on each cheekbone and blend using my fingers.

Next is my holy grail lip balm, NUXE Reve de Miel. It’s the only thing I’ll ever use. Like I said before, I have crazy dry skin/lips/hair…basically I am one giant desert. If you suffer from dry lips, you need it. One pot lasts at least 4 months, and it’s perfect for winter.

Last is my Fake Up concealer from Benefit. I like it okay, but I got it solely because it’s the *only* concealer I can find in my color in this country (if someone uses something else, please let me know). I use it to brighten under my eyes. The kids wear me out, so it’s a much needed pep and makes me look alive.

Clockwise from the left:

First is my NARS Lovejoy blush. I briefly mentioned this blush in my skincare routine post, and as you can see, I definitely get a lot of use out of it. It’s just the perfect everyday blush. It’s a bronzed, dusty rose color that is fantastic for women of color.

HOLY GRAIL ALERT! Have you tried MAC paint pots? If you haven’t you are missing out on the most magical eye shadow products ever. I swear by the one above, in the color Eclair. Eclair is described as a “light chocolate with gold pearl”, but sadly it was part of a limited edition collection. Trust me when I tell you it is PERFECT. Even Temptalia says so. If you can find it on Ebay or something, get it. Paint pots can be used as an eyelid primer, or they can be used on their own. They do not budge. Ever. No smudging, no creasing. I swore by it in the ridiculously gross summer we had here, and it would last until I took my makeup off at night. When I’m in a rush, I just swipe a bit on my lid and use a darker color in my crease. It’s my easy go-to eye makeup look.

Above and Beyond Full Coverage Concealer by NYX Cosmetics is a something I picked up in Kuala Lumpur (hoooooray dark colors!). It’s really heavy, and basically the same color as my skin, so I use it to cover up my dark spots and occasional pimple.

Next is the only Korean brand eyeshadow I use, Etude House Look At My Eyes eyeshadow in the color BR402. It’s a gorgeous bronzed gold color (seeing a pattern?), and I sometimes layer it over my MAC paint pot for a little extra pop. This is the one Korean eyeshadow I love because it’s extra pigmented, and it’s a gorgeous color without all the unnecessary shimmer and glitter. This is actually the second one I bought because I love it so much.

MAC’s Cork eyeshadow is a warm, medium dark brown with a satin-y finish. It’s my go-to crease color, or sometimes I just use it on my lid with a heavy cat eye.

Last is my MAC Stubborn Pro-Longwear blush. It’s described as a “matte raspberry pink”.  Now that fall is here, I’ve been using this mixed with my NARS Lovejoy blush to give myself a little bit of a more berry cheek. It really does last all day!

First is my custom MAC palette I got at the Pro store in Apgujeong. I cannot for the life of me remember the color in the top left corner, but the top right is Mythology, bottom left Cranberry, and bottom right is Sketch. I just so happened to have this with me when I took these pictures because I wanted to do a gold and berry smokey eye.

I reviewed the Etude House eye primer a while ago, and I still love it. I use it when I don’t use my MAC paint pot as a primer.

My mascara is L’Oreal Volume Supreme Millions. It’s fantastic! I got in on a whim at Olive Young because I’m just so tired of paying 35,000W for mascara. It reminds me a lot of Benefit’s They’re Real, and it’s less than half the price. Win!

In an effort to minimize the number of lipsticks and lipgloss I carry with me at one time, I switch them out daily. This particular day, I decided to wear a nude lip, so I went for the new RiRi Hearts Nude lipstick.

I usually bring 1 or 2 brushes with me to apply my eye makeup. The grey one is the one that comes with the Urban Decay Naked Palette, and the black one is my MAC 252 large shader brush that I’ve had since college. Trust me, MAC brushes are more than worth the price. Take care of them and you’ll never need new ones.

I use my ultimate holy grail Clio Waterproof Pen Liner to line my eyes. It’s perfect. PERFECT! It’s the only eyeliner black eyeliner I have bought in Korea, and I’m planning on buying the entire stock at Olive Young before I leave. No smudging, fast drying, super black. It’s amazing.

Last are my 2 favorite, everyday lipglosses, the Etude House LuciDarling in color 6, and my NARS gloss in Dolce Vita. They look like the same exact color, but the difference is that the Etude one is sheer, and the NARS one is more like a lipstick. I like to layer them for the perfect pink pout.

And finally, last but not least, are all of the random things.

I decanted my MAC Fix+ spray into the Skinfood spray bottle. I use it to set my makeup, and to make myself look less “done”. It’s fantastic. I also sometimes use it in the middle of the day to give my skin a little pick me up.

I have to wear perfume everyday or I  feel naked. Sometimes I forget when I’m rushing out of the door, but that’s why I always make sure to bring my SkinFood stick perfume in Vanilla and the most amazing perfumed oil I bought in Kuala Lumpur. It’s easily one of  the best smelling perfumes I’ve ever had, it lasts ALL day…and it cost like $5. I’m always getting compliments on it. And I know that no one else will be wearing it. I hate when people smell like me. Is anyone else that way?

Last are various lip liners that I’ve just randomly been collecting in my bag. Lip liners in Korea are a bit lack luster for me, but they get the job done. I have 2 Missha Soft Stay Lip liners, one in red (RD01) and one in a soft brown (BR01).  The one in the back is another soft brown one from Etude House but the name has been rubbed off, so I’m not sure what it is exactly. And the white one is Etude House’s Drawing Show creamy pencil in BR404. I was SUPER excited about it when I found it  because it’s a very dark brown that reminds me of MAC’s Cork. Except I found out that it’s actually supposed to be an eyeliner. Oh well! It works as a great lip liner and I normally pair it with my nude lipsticks.

On the weekends, I take out about half of this stuff from the bag because I’ve already done my makeup at home. It’s not always this crazy!

Are any of my favorites your favorites? Let me know in the comments!
