Missha Super Aqua Marine Stem Cell Intensive Serum and Control Emulsion Review

I bought these 2 products on a whim during the massive Missha sale a few months ago…I think it was right around Christmastime. I was actually on my way out of the store when the words “super aqua” and “marine stem cell” caught my eye. You can never go wrong with any products with those key words in them. I was able to get my hands on 2 products from the collection: the Super Aqua Marine Stem Cell Intensive Serum and the Control Emulsion.

According to the Missha US website, the “Super Aqua Marine Stem Cell skincare series contains Marine Stem Cell Complex™ to help maintain the balance between 3 key factors in healthy, younger looking skin – radiance, moisture and elasticity. The Marine Stem Cell Complex™ is composed of three kinds of Marine Callus, which provide radiance from the inner layers of the skin.” Sounds magical right? I’m always here for radiance and shit. According to the sales woman, this particular line is catered to the 20-30 age range, or those without any visible aging or other skin issues. Perfect for someone like me!

Both products are packaged in sleek and sturdy frosted glass bottles. They’re very pretty, but of course they aren’t travel friendly at all. You also may not want to place them in a completely full medicine cabinet because they just may fall out and almost shatter everywhere…not that I would know that or anything. They both have pumps and are extremely hygienic.

The intensive serum is a very, very pale blue colored, gel textured serum. It’s not runny or watery like most serums, and feels very smooth to the touch. It has a very pleasant and clean smell, and the scent fades as soon as you apply it to your skin. I usually use about 2 to 3 pumps to cover my whole face, right after applying my toner. It absorbs extremely fast and is immediately hydrating. It doesn’t leave a sticky or gross film, and hasn’t caused any breakouts.

After using the serum, I apply the control emulsion. Like most emulsions, it has a thin, light, milky consistency. It also has the same pleasant scent as the serum, and it doesn’t linger on the skin. Like the serum, it absorbs quickly and isn’t oily at all. It dries to a semi-matte finish on my skin. I was a bit skeptical about it’s hydrating powers, since it has such a light consistency, but I was wrong. It’s quite hydrating without being too rich on the skin. It would the perfect emulsion for those with normal to oily skin, or those living in warm and humid climates, as it’s hydrating without being oily or clogging your pores. When I wake up in the morning, my skin is noticeably bright and smooth. I think it’s also helped a bit with evening out my skin tone.

Since it’s wintertime and my skin is basically the Sahara, I find that both of these products aren’t moisturizing enough for me on their own so I usually follow the emulsion up with a cream. Sometimes, depending on what my skin is doing in the morning, the emulsion will be my last step since I wear tinted moisturizer. Overall, I think both the Missha Super Aqua Marine Stem Cell Intensive Serum and the Control Emulsion are excellent products, especially if you have oily to normal skin or live in a humid climate. If you have extremely dry skin, you may want to follow them up with a cream, or choose something a tad more hydrating. Since I’m moving to a country with a hot and humid climate in 2 months (announcement tomorrow, stay tuned), I definitely plan on keeping both in my skincare stash.

You can find both products online at MisshaUS.com, or at W2 Beauty. The serum on MisshaUS is $32, and on W2 Beauty it’s $26.74. The emulsion is also available on MisshaUS.com for $22, and on W2 Beauty for $26.49. If you live in Korea, you can also find them at your local Missha store. Make sure to check it out on the 10th of the month, as that’s Missha day and purchases have a discount.
