My Lips But Better – By MAC

I’ve talked before about how I’m a little picky when it comes to my lip colors. In Korea, I found a few Korean lipsticks and glosses that I liked, but overall, I preferred to go to MAC. MAC’s lipsticks are easily my favorite thing about the brand. They have a million colors, they’re smooth and pigmented, and they smell like vanilla. What’s not to love?

As a Black woman, it’s sometimes hard to find nude lip colors. Everything is always a little too pink, a little too beige, a little too grey. I’m not trying to look like I’m dead! But while in Korea, I found 4 awesome colors by MAC that are Black girl approved. Instead of nude, I like to call them “my lips but better” lipsticks. They are the colors that add just a little polish to a look, and are easy to apply. You can pop ’em in your purse and you don’t even need a mirror for touch ups! And there’s nothing sexier to me than a smokey eye with a “my lips but better” lip. Swoon.

Starting from the left, we have Touch. Touch is described as a peachy cinnamon. It’s definitely more on the brown side, which makes it a perfect match for my lips since they are naturally darker. It’s creamy, super pigmented, and has a slightly glossy finish. If I had to pick the perfect lip color for me, Touch would be it.

Next is Hug Me, a pretty pink with hints of light brown. This one is my go-to whenever I do a more sultry eye look. I find the pink color really compliments darker eyeshadow looks.

Next is Modesty, a neutral nude pink color. This one is the pinkest out of the bunch, but I usually wear it with MAC’s Cork lipliner to add a little bit more brown to it . Paired with Cork, it turns into a gorgeous dusty rose color that’sĀ great for day or nighttime looks.

And last is Impressive, a Sheen Supreme lipstick. Impressive is a muted rose color with slight hints of brown (seeing a trend here?). This formula is unique because it’s extremely shiny, almost like a gloss. It’s more brown than Modesty, and extremely flattering on the lips. I always reached for Impressive for work because it’s a great neutral color that goes with everything, plus the glossiness adds a bit of playfulness to any look.

swatchesI know there are tons of drugstore alternatives to these, but sadly, living in Asia means I don’t really have access to all the cool brands. If you ever want to treat yourself to a new lipstick that you’re guaranteed to get a ton of wear out of, these are gonna be it!

What is your favorite “my lips but better” lipstick color? Let me know in the comments!
