Living in Ho Chi Minh City is great. There’s delicious food, friendly people, and warm, sunny weather. But things get a bit murky when you’re faced with having to shop in the city.
Beauty shopping in Ho Chi Minh City is difficult. Yes, major beauty brands (Western and Asian) are here, but the markups are often so awful (literally $25 for a FaceShop eyeliner #GIRLGOODBYE) that it’s better to just wait until you make a major trip back home. Or you can put your faith in the mail system and cross your fingers that everything makes it to you in one piece and you don’t get charged a bajillion dollars in taxes and customs fees.
That’s why I’m SO happy about Ma Belle Box, a beauty startup that launched in Vietnam this summer.
Marion, a French expat and fellow beauty lover is the founder of Ma Belle Box, Vietnam’s first beauty subscription box. In the expanding Vietnamese beauty market, she saw the need for beauty enthusiasts to be able to test and try new products.
“I wanted to bring something new and creative to Saigon’s beauty community. I found Ma Belle Box to be the best way for me to express my creativity and my passion for beauty.” – Marion
In true Saigon style, my Ma Belle Box was delivered to my office via motorbike. The first thing I noticed about the Ma Belle Box was how beautifully everything was packaged. The box alone is gorgeous and totally Instagram worthy. When I opened the box, I was delighted to find that everything in the box smelled incredible, a very pretty floral scent. It was such a nice touch!
Another awesome thing about Ma Belle Box is the cute mini magazine that comes with each box. It details what each sample is and how to use it, along with cool beauty tips and interviews. Everything in the beauty guide is written in both English and Vietnamese, so I was able to read everything with ease.
And the samples! I was super surprised to find Bioderma and Benefit samples. They’re Real is one of my favorite mascaras, and Bioderma is one of my favorite French brands, so wins all around. The Bioderma micellar water is my shit! I used to go through the giant bottles when I lived in Korea. Also included is an exfoliator from Andalou Naturals, a brand that uses fruit stem cell extracts, and a coconut oil lip balm from Skinny&Co.
I’m going back to the U.S. for my BFF’s wedding in less than two weeks and I know I’ll be bringing all of these on my flight. Ma Belle Box is much needed here in Vietnam, and I’m excited to see what they have in store for the future!
Each box is priced at 500,000 (roughly 22-25 USD).
A new box is available every 2 months.
