August Favorites

augustfavorites Hi everyone! I’m back with another monthly favorites post. I know it’s been a looong time, and posting has been so sporadic, but it’s for a good reason! My magazine, Glamtrotting, has officially LAUNCHED! I am just so overwhelmed with gratitude to my team, so happy and so proud. Make sure to head over to Glamtrotting.com to pick up your copy today!

And now on to the beauty bits I’ve been looooving recently:

I first heard about Etude House’s Dust Cut line from Picoprince.com, another Korean skincare blogger. I’m not the biggest fan of Etude skincare, but the dust cut line had me intrigued. It’s described as a skincare range to protect against dust, pollution, and other elements. Considering the pollution in HCMC is out of control, I just knew I had to get my hands on the mist. There’s also a face mask (which I bought), and a face wash, but the mist is the product that intrigued me the most. It creates a barrier on your skin to protect it from the dust and to stop all of the particles from sticking to your skin. So far, I’m OBSESSED. It really does work. I had noticed that my skin would always look dull by the end of the day, now, my makeup looks fresh and lasts much longer. Seems gimmicky, but I love it.

With every purchase of $100 dollars or more from w2beauty.com, Alice includes a free Sulwhasoo sample gift set. I have 2 sets now, and never really got around to using them until we went to Bangkok and I wanted to pack travel sized items. GIRL. Why did I not start using them sooner?! Sulwhasoo is the truth, the way, and the light. The products in the photo are the first care serum, the essential balancing emulsion, and the concentrated ginseng renewing cream. I use them at night, and when I wake up, my skin is positively radiant. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m happy they do. I wish I could afford an entire closet full of Sulwhasoo. I’d cry happy tears forever.

When I went to the Saigon Flea Market a few weeks ago, there was a woman selling imported cosmetics from the US. When I saw the GIANT tube of Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers, I bought it immediately. People love the watermelon and strawberry Lip Smackers, but Dr. Pepper is where it’s at. I love that it leaves a tiny hint of color, plus the scent is amazing. It brings back so many childhood memories!

I’ve been dying over Benefit’s Gimme Brow for ages now. I first tried it in Korea, but I could never bring myself to pay over $30 for a tiny little tube of brow gel. But I finally went ahead and splurged in Bangkok and I AM SO HAPPY. Gimme Brow is a brow volumizing fiber gel that fills in your sparse areas, and tames your brows all at once. It’s amazing and instantly makes me look more polished. For someone that hates to spend a million years doing their makeup, it’s a godsend. Just swipe some on, and bam. Gorgeous brows. Love, love, love.

The next two items are from TheFaceShop, purchased here in Vietnam. Yes, I know I feature a new mascara every favorites post but I like to switch mine up. I’m prone to styes so I never like to use the same mascara for long. I do have to say that the Extreme Black Force mascara from TheFaceShop is definitely the best out of the ones I’ve previously mentioned. It has a rubber brush, which I’ve come to realize is my favorite kind of brush. It’s inky black, and makes your lashes look like falsies in the best way. People always ask me where I get my lash extensions, then are shocked when I tell them it’s just mascara. And that luxe looking gold bottle next to the mascara is The FACEit Collagen Liquid Eyeliner. My stash of Clio Kill Black Liner ran out, and I was desperate for another liner, when the lady at the store swatched this one on me. It was instant love. I haven’t used a liquid liner in AGES, so there was a big of a learning curve at first (and eyeliner all over my face), but after that, it was smooth sailing. It’s sweat proof, waterproof, and I got caught in a downpour on the back of a motorbike proof. The Clio pen is easier to use, but I like the look of the liquid better.

When I went to Bangkok, I stocked up on My Beauty Diary sheet masks. I’d always heard how great they are, so you know I had to put them to the test. Verdict? They’re FABULOUS! Sheet masks can be pretty hit or miss with me – sometimes I don’t see any results. But the My Beauty Diary masks pack a punch. Almost instantly, your skin is glowy, dewy, and brighter. It’s like a facial in a sheet mask. I bought a million different kinds, but I really like the caviar and red wine ones.

And last is a little buy I got from Boots in Bangkok. I’ve always loved Soap and Glory, but had only tried their products in the travel size. Since my feet are in sandals 98.9% of the time, I was in desperate need of a foot cream that wasn’t heavy or sticky. Heel Genius is soooooo good. It’s slightly thicker than your average body lotion, but it sinks into your feet almost immediately, and leaves your feet silky smooth. I use it on my feet before I go to bed and can’t stop rubbing my feet together as I fall asleep. It’s divine!

And that’s it for August. I’m currently testing a bunch of new things so my September favorites will hopefully be awesome! I’m so glad to finally get back on track with blogging. Don’t you ever worry, even with a job and Glamtrotting, I’ll always blog here! I love you all too much!!!!!

June Favorites

junefavorites

It’s that time again – monthly favorites! Woooo! I cannot believe we are now past the halfway point in the year. In keeping with my halfway through the year tradition, it’s time to recap the things I loooved during the month of June.

My skin is still being ridiculous. It’s better than last month, but it’s not back to its silky smooth ‘winter in Korea’ glory. Sigh. To let my skin sort of get it together, I’ve been trying to wear as little makeup as possible. This is where my favorite lipsticks come in handy. On days when I don’t want to wear a ton of makeup, I just throw on some mascara and a bright, bold, lip, and BAM – instaglam. My current favorites are MAC’s Ririwoo, a classic matte red, and Heroine, a bright matte purple.

The little pink and green space alien looking balls are a fruit called rambutan, and I am OBSESSED. I guess it’s rambutan season here in Vietnam, because they are crazy cheap and available everywhere. They are a mix between a lychee and a grape. All you do is peel back the skin, and pop in the grape looking fruit, making sure to eat around the seed (the seed is bitter). They are little balls of sweet joy and I could eat them forever.

Back when I went to LA, I bought the Ole Henriksen Truth to go wipes. I’ve been hoarding them because they were SO expensive, but man oh man are they worth it. I’m totally not a face wipe and go kinda gal, but since I’ve been going to the gym regularly, I find that I need something to keep in my gym bag for a quick wipe off when I can’t go home immediately. They’re super soft and don’t irritate the skin like most face wipes. They’re expensive, but I’d buy them again in a heartbeat. (edit: I guess they’ve been rebranded as the ‘The Clean Truth Cleansing Cloths – Brightening“, but I’m sure the ones I have are pretty much the same.)

The business card up at the top is for a spa that has quickly become my favorite, the Anna Sanctuary Wellness Spa in Phu My Hung. First, it’s GORGEOUS. It feels like you’re in some super luxe spa and you’re the fanciest bitch in HCMC. Second, they’re running an amazing happy hour deal from 9-2 where you can get a basic facial or massage for only 390,000d, or the low, low price of $18. It’s incredible. And they use top of the line products: Sisley, L’Occitane, and Clarins. If you’re in HCMC, you definitely need to make your way to Phu My Hung and get your life.

I have 2 Korean skincare favorites, and they are the Primera Pure Hydrating Gel Cream and the Su:m37 Time Energy Skin Resetting Refining Serum. I received them both in my w2beauty haul, and I’ve quickly fallen in love. I don’t want to give away too much info yet, because I’m working on a full review of both, so stay tuned!

When I got my job, I celebrated by buying myself a new bottle of perfume – Gucci Guilty. I’ve always LOVED this scent, but never bought it, until now. It’s sexy and I always get lots of compliments on it when I wear it. Swoon. I just love perfume so much.

I bought myself another mascara because….well, I didn’t have a reason I just wanted it. This one is the MAC False Lashes Extreme Black mascara. It’s super duper black, and has a really lightweight mousse like texture. I like it because the brush is quite large, so you can coat each lash evenly. Now, even though it says “False Lashes”, I find this mascara leans more towards natural looking. I like to use it on Saturday and Sunday mornings when I have to teach my wee ones, because it’s really fuss free and I look more like “I woke up like this”.

And last are my two most recent purchases from A Banker’s Secret (you can read all about them here). First of all, I am in loooooooooooove with rosehip seed oil. I don’t know how I lived without it before. If you have acne scarring or acne prone skin, it’s the oil for you. Since I’ve been battling this weird jawline breakout for a few months, I’ve been scarring like crazy. Sad times. But rosehip seed oil is really, really great at reducing acne scarring. I even take a little bit at night and put it on my legs, since my legs are scarring like crazy due to mosquito bites. Grrrr. And we all know how much I love hand creams, and the Super Lovely Hand Cream from A Banker’s Secret is FABULOUS. Since I started teaching babies, I wash my hands constantly, which equals gross, dry hands. But this hand cream sinks in quickly, doesn’t leave any tackiness or grease behind, and smells heavenly. Obsessed!

May Favorites

So in the midst of all the craziness happening in my life at the moment, I totally forgot that it’s June 1st and I was going to start doing a monthly favorites post! Can someone explain to me how it is already halfway through the year? I can’t even deal.

I’ve been extra in love with rocking a nude lip lately, as it’s just fuss free and easy to wear, especially with minimal makeup days. I’ve been loving a combo of my MAC Cork lipliner mixed with NYX’s Butter gloss in Tiramisu. The NYX Butter gloss is one of my favorite lip gloss formulas, super moisturizing and not sticky or gloopy. And they’re ridiculously affordable at $5 a pop. Tiramisu is a pretty pink color with brown undertones, perfect for dark skinned women.

During the last few weeks of May I dealt with a huge hormonal breakout along my chin and jawline, one of the worst breakouts I’ve had in ages. I blame it on the not so healthy diet I’d been partaking in for a few weeks, but I’ve cleaned up my act. My major breakout is finally under control, thanks to the help of some skincare saviors. First is my trusty AC Care Bee’s Cure Serum. I’ve written an entire review about it here. I break this out when my skin is out of control, and it really, really helps clear up the imperfections. It helps take the redness and pain out of your breakouts, especially those pesky under the skin ones. I can’t be without it!

Another May favorite is one that I haven’t wanted to mention because it’s not available ANYWHERE (like…literally it’s not available anywhere, even in the stores in Korea) is the su:m37 Miracle Charcoal Cleansing Stick. Yup, there is a charcoal cleansing stick, formulated for those with oily or congested skin. I have no other information about it, other than the fact that it once existed, but I guess it’s no longer in production. If you can find it through ebay or some obscure reseller, it’s available in a su:m37 Christmas gift set from last year, along with the miracle rose cleansing stick. I use the charcoal cleanser at night to really detox my skin and to make sure all of the grime, pollution, and sweat is thoroughly cleansed away. It’s gentle, and non-drying, and the lather is divine. Thankfully, I have 2 sticks so I think I’m set on cleansers for a looong time.

Wandering around the drugstore one day, I popped by the Vichy display and the Normaderm Night Detox night cream caught my eye. Designed to detox the skin and combat oiliness, it tightens pores, evens skin texture, and reduces imperfections for clear, even skin when you wake up. I’m always skeptical of such bold claims, but it really is a miracle worker. When I wake up in the morning, my skin is noticeably smoother, and the imperfections around my chin and jaw are much, much better. If you have oily or congested skin, this stuff is a life savior.

I sadly didn’t stock up on my favorite Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocket mascara before I left Korea, so I’ve been forced to find another one. I’m really liking the Maybelline The HyperCurl Mascara. I’m usually not a big fan of waterproof mascara, but this one comes off easily and doesn’t take out any of my lashes. It’s also lightweight and not clumpy at all, giving me pretty, fluttery lashes.

I don’t know what it is, but mosquitoes love me and they’ve been eating me alive here. When I went to Singapore last year, I stocked up on Tiger Balm, and it’s been my life saver this past month. It’s one of the most effective products out there for soothing itchy, angry bites. I keep one jar in my purse and one by my nightstand. I don’t play around!

And last is another purchase I picked up from the drug store that may not seem all that special, but it’s amazing – a bottle of coconut oil infused with ylang ylang essential oil from LaCocovie. It’s AMAZING. I know, coconut oil is everywhere nowadays, but this one infused with ylang ylang is life everlasting. It smells incredible, and leaves your skin silky smooth and hydrated. I shave with it, use it mixed with my body lotion after my shower, or even in my hair as a pre-shampoo treatment.  I’m obsessed.
